Jets Rout Texans To Open NFL Season

New York Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez tracked down NFL legend Joe Namath before the game looking for a pep talk and some pointers. What the NFL Hall of Famer told him had a very beneficial effect. Sanchez looked very decidedly not like a rookie as he threw for 272 yards and a touchdown against one interception. More importantly, the Jets easily beat the host Houston Texans 24-7.

NFL sports betting enthusiasts who took the Jets as +4 road underdogs cashed their tickets with the outright win. New York improved to 10-8 ATS as an underdog over the past three NFL seasons.

After the game, Sanchez recounted what Namath had told him in their pregame conversation:

“What a pep talk. That was Joe Namath, just taking all the credit from himself and throwing it back to me and just saying, ‘Good luck.’ To hear that from a legend like that, it just kind of gives you the chills. It was something special to be a part of, an emotional start, an emotional little pep talk.”

For his part, Namath said he wasnt surprised:

“No, I was hopeful and I’m satisfied more than I thought I’d be. His offensive line did a hell of a job, but he did a great job of finding time with his feet, just to move subtly … I don’t doubt even a little bit that he doesn’t have poise at this stage.”

The Jets defense also had a great afternoon. The run defense was particularly stifling, holding Steve Slaton to just 17 yards on the ground. Afterwards, Slaton couldnt believe what had just happened:

“It’s just insane. You work for six months leading up to this first game. You have all offseason to prepare for this game and then to come out and play like that is upsetting.”

Texans coach Gary Kubiak took the blame for his teams awful showing:

“The offensive football team gave us no chance and that starts with me. There’s nobody that can feel anything good coming out of this football game.”

Houston will start from scratch on Sunday as they travel to Nashville to face the Tennessee Titans. The Texans will return home for games the following two weeks against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders. The Jets will play their next two games at home, beginning this weekend against the New England Patriots. Theyll welcome the Tennessee Titans to the Meadowlands the following week.

MMA Flashback: Strikeforce Heads To Colorado For A ‘Mile High’ Event

In his second fight in just over a month, Frank Trigg dominated tough veteran Falaniko Vitale wire to wire en route to a unanimous decision victory at Strikeforce: Payback. Trigg looked very sharp in easily handling Makoto Takimoto in Tokyo at Sengoku 4 on August 28th, and his victory here was every bit as impressive. Trigg essentially dictated where and when the fight occurred, and Vitale had no response whatsoever. Aside from a 2nd round takedown, Vitale mustered precious little offense and spent most of the fight trying to counter Triggs sharp striking and takedown attempts. The CompuStrike stats clearly underscored Triggs superiority in the fight, giving him a lopsided 41 to 7 edge in strikes landed.

In the co-main event, Duane Bang Ludwig earned an explosive TKO win over Sam Morgan. After an evenly contested first minute, Ludwig quickly took control with a series of Muay Thai knee strikes which set up a perfectly placed bodyshot to the liver that floored his opponent. Ludwig quickly pressed his advantage and never gave Morgan a chance to recover. Still feeling the effects of the liver shot, Morgan ate another hard punch to the solar plexus and gasping for breath was forced to tap out under the barrage of strikes. The victory gave Ludwig some redemption for an embarrassing TKO loss to Morgan in 2005 when he was simply overwhelmed within the first minute of the fight.

In perhaps the most entertaining bout on the card, highly touted Billy Evangelista survived his second big scare in as many fights to remain undefeated. After a split decision victory over Nam Phan in June, Evangelista found himself in grave danger of a TKO loss early in his bout with tough veteran Luke Caudillo. Caudillo”who goes by the nickname Lil Hulk”opened the fight with a flurry, knocking Evangelista to the canvas three times in the opening minute.

As the rest of the fight unfolded, Caudillo made the mistake of becoming a headhunter looking for a KO punch which allowed Evangelista to take over the fight. Evangelista continued to score with crisp combinations and as the bout progressed demonstrated his superior conditioning”a major factor at the high altitude of the Broomfield, Colorado fight venue. Evangelista would eventually earn a unanimous decision victory though the 30-27 score awarded by one judge was questionable considering that he spent the first half of round one being bounced around the cage like a beach ball.

A highly anticipated womens match took place early in the evening, with former Hooters waitress Michelle The Karate Hottie Watterson easily defeating an overmatched opponent in Tyra Parker. Parker, whod lost her pro debut six weeks ago, may have been rushed back into action too quickly but she came out fighting gamely swinging for the fences with wild, powerful punch attempts. Watterson easily figured out her opponent, however, and The Karate Hottie quickly took over with her more disciplined striking approach. The dnouement came when Watterson landed several big knees from the clinch, took her opponents back and locked in a rear naked choke for the tapout win.

The event marked Strikeforces first visit to Colorado, and another in a series of very entertaining fight cards. Scott Coker and his team deserve a lot of credit for their matchmaking”even in the lower card fights they have a knack for putting together bouts that more often than not are exciting and competitive.

Choosing the Right Work Table For The Kitchen Is Vital.

Is your kitchen designed with your needs in mind? Do you feel excited to create or a sense of dread when you walk into your kitchen? A high quality kitchen work table can be the most important factor in your kitchen’s ability to enhance your cooking experience. There are many kitchen products available on the marketplace nowadays to help you to develop into the dominate chef in your home. Work tables and butcher blocks come in a variety of sizes, designs and colors to fit any decor and supply the ideal answer for your kitchen.

The most important element to scrutinize when looking at a maple top work table is the finish. You will want to look for an oil-based finish since you are going to be chopping fruits or vegetables on the surface. Maple is a closed-pore, or tight grained wood that gives you an optimal work surface for food preparation. Never use a varnished finished surface for slicing and dicing food products. Tables that are finished with varnish are considered furniture pieces, and are not to be used for food preparation. Bearing that in mind, let us discuss some work table alternatives for your kitchen.

You can find work tables in a variety of sizes. You can get an all wood kitchen work table with an oil finish. With options ranging from bottom shelves, casters, and drawers, you are sure to discover the size that is correct for you. There are also distinctive color options for the base of the work table, so you can correspond your kitchen work table to your existing kitchen theme. You might also consider the White House Table from John Boos. A very utilitarian feature of this work table is the end grain work surface which helps to reduce and resist nicks and gouges and reduces overall wear and tear. The coved backsplash, includes a lower storage shelf with slats and alternative wicker baskets are just some of the design features you may want to contain into your dwelling’s kitchen. If lack of room is an issue, the Town House Table may be your resolution. It comes in smaller sizes, but other than that, looks much like other kitchen tables.

Another option that you can consider as a kitchen worktable or kitchen island is a butcher block Just in case you’ve never heard of them or if you’re a little unsure, butcher blocks are restaurant quality (free-standing or counter-top) cutting boards, carefully designed for cutting all kinds of meats. Numerous people use John Boos blocks as kitchen islands and they function as an effective area for slicing multiple types of foods, rather than only meats. The great thing about butcher blocks is that you can re-sand and re-oil them every once in awhile and they look like new. This allows you and your family and friends to love it for years and years.

If your kitchen design and utility is in need of an improvement, investigate a kitchen table or butcher block. As we’ve looked into, there are countless options that will supply you with the flexibility you need for your personal preferences. Quality is not an issue when you choose the right brand, and the investment is well worth it because of how much it adds to your kitchen both in terms of design and utility. With the right work table or butcher block, you can create unforgettable meals for your friends and family.
